2 more match points, two more massive first serves from the American. Clutch.

Feel like Hev has had her chances to be honest.

*8-8

And there's the letdown game. Broken easily to love on a double

8-9*

Grim. Had 5 match points but only a play on one. Will sting but it's her own fault.

However, if you want to know why Hev is simply making up the numbers in the low 70s rather than being relevant at the sharp end, that match shows it. Gets into a winning position then reverts to patting the ball about, absolutely zero killer instinct. Played with no intent in the end.

Could have won that twice over. Terrible result, huge wasted opportunity, and bitterly disappointing after a great first win.

Thank you Jo for putting a smile on my face this morning.

Oh Hev, so close.

And Radwanska exits what was Heather's section as well! Garrr, what could have been! I'm actually more bothered about the 9 break points in the middle of the decider, which she did have plays on, and played far too passively. If she had asserted herself, she should have been away and clear. If your opponent bangs down huge serves under match point pressure you can't get too hung up about them.

It's frustrating because the win over Stosur could have really started to kick things into gear for her again, as from beginning to end she was (generally) assertive and looking to move up the court. Hopefully we can have a positive Fed Cup, and that helps her find a bit of confidence again so can defend at least some of her mammoth Monterrey-Indian Wells-Miami points. Otherwise she's going to find herself in the 130s.

Very much looking forward to the JoKo-Caro contest!

When Heather was at her peak you could almost guarantee that she would win any close match she was involved in. Now she seems to have slipped to the opposite state where she can't quite close out the competitive matches. It looks as if help with recovering that earlier "fight to the very last shot and always expect to win" attitude is what is needed.

I always like to look at the non-GB press to see their responses to GB players - it's sweeter to hear praise from those without a natural bias! So here's the New York Times' Christopher Clarey tweeting:

Konta too good too often for 19-year-old Osaka. 6-4, 6-2. Anyone left in the draw who wasn't worried about playing Konta here should be

Watching Konta at the moment pure pleasure: making a complex game look simple

Well done, Ms Konta!

PS: Just glanced at the replies to the Tweets ... someone asks 'Can she trouble Serena' to which the response is simply 'Oh yeah'. And then someone else suggests she might be a Kontender. Why didn't we think of that?

If you take the remaining draw and look at it on head to heads then you get last 8 onwards of:

kerber v Muguruza
Venus Williams v Jankovic
Karolina Pliskova v Vesnina
Konta (beat Cibulkova last time out) v Serena Williams

Muguruza v Jankovic
Karolina Pliskova v Serena Williams (never played JK)

Jankovic v karolina Pliskova

Karolina Pliskova WINNER -

Solely based on last time played and highest ranking if never played.

Going down bookies for Fed and Pliskova double now
