As I understand it, Leon Smith asked the men to fall back a bit and avoid moving ahead of the womens top 10, just to help build morale, until Andy couldn't hold back his real form any longer.

Actually as age mates, Andy is waiting for Sam to perform her part of the deal (Sam is 32 next week)

She's asked him to arrange a few WCs

Our funk in the women's top 10 is continuing and we could well slide below Italy next week. Between Katie B (-57) and Fran (-16) we are set for an awful week again, and with Harriet's dismal performance today, it's only Heather that may show a +5 upward gain. Thus far we are -47 in aggregate for next week, but that negative figure is likely to increase still.

And so, with our women's average dropping to 219.9 ( lowest since 12/02/18 = 221.8 ) and Andy leading the men's rise to 218.4, our men's average is ahead for the first time since 08/01/18.

Depth has kept our women ahead but it has been getting steadily worse top 10 depth with top 200 hopefuls moving more towards 300. And as Michael indicates, their average will drop quite a lot further next week.

2019 has not been a good year for most of our women

Well, according to that chart, 9 have gone up and 11 have gone down: it's not much difference, it's practically 50:50.

It's not about where they've come from but where they're going to.  The replacements have'nt taken up the slack - even though they've done very well - but I don't think there's a top 200 player there.

Will try to get the men's out tomorrow - after a day off..

Jodie, Fran, Sam once again - players who have advanced this year into our top 10 ( or Jodie from 10th ) and could advance further into the top 200? Plus Emma further down for now. *

Would though, yes, say that overall 2019 has not been a good year for our women ( without getting into numbers of women ) with the particular disappointment the general fall back of the youngish group that made such advances last year.

And the fall in the top 10 average ( the simple but pretty good indicator that this thread charts ) tells a story of cumulatively bigger downs than ups in our top 10.

* ah sorry, rereading, were you maybe meaning that none of the risers have risen into the top 200 this year to replace these who have fallen out, as distinct to none having top 200 potential? And yes for this year 6 in the top 200 falling to 3 in the top 200 ( indeed currently in the top 250 ) is not a good look.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying at all that it's been a great year. It really hasn't. Just that this chart actually doesn't really make that point.

In terms of your top 200, you've lost Katie B, Katie Swan and Gabi. But the first two of those will be back in the top 200 no problem, if they play for 4 months, injury free (which we're led to believe is only round the corner). It's only Gabi who poses a problem.

And as Indy says, we've had big rises from several others who are definitely top-200 potential (Emma, Sam, Jodie.....)

(However, again, I do agree that - gut feel - it's been pretty slim pickings with the women at times recently)

So this week the women's top 10 average has fallen below the men's, for the first time in how long?

Over 21 months.

08/01/18: Men 211.7, Women 213.9

That was just after Aljaz went back over to Slovenia. The men's average had been well ahead of the women's average in 2017 but was overtaken early in 2018 and later fell well behind.

Shame the overtaking has happened when both have fallen back by some 10 places average or so
