Laura was very unlucky in her first match of the year and a win might have given her some much needed confidence. Nothing good to say about today's match though.
Hopefully Tara can produce a better performance and result later.
Not watching it. I can see one problem, though Tara often fights admirably against DF problems. Got to have an effect though over and above the points themselves.
QR1: Tara Moore WR 165 lost to Dalma Galfi (HUN) WR 162 (CH 160 last month), age 18 JCH 1 6-7(2) 6-3 6-1
The DFs for Tara were seemingly relatively in control at 7 in 10 service games and a TB in the first two sets. But there were 7 in 4 service games in set 3 and the set fairly flashed away.
As I said I have admired much of Tara's general play for some time but on service 1 ace & 14 DFs against 12 aces & 4 DFs and a considerable young talent is a problem.
Laura was appalling. She's made no improvement in months andis hugely overranked. If it wasn't for all her 10pt for first round exit counters she'd have been nowhere near this field.
Tara simply lost rythym on her serve as she started to tire, confidence went and she fell apart. Galfi definitely a good prospect.
Not good enough from either although I didn't really expect Tara to come through (and to be fair the first set was good, it's just the fall off was like a cliff edge). But never nice to drop a set and a break advantage.
I don't see how Laura is playable at Fed Cup. She's not good singles back up right now unfortunately.
