Very impressive from Kedders, Wawrinka clearly rattled and had to rely on his experience to get through. Kedders always comes out strong in his first set, then just struggles a little to consolidate against a big player but I guess this is just a bit of mental resolve. It's all there in Kedders game, won't be long before he takes a major scalp. He's clearly a top 25 player already for me. So exciting to watch him mature almost game by game it seems. Superb winners, angles and passing shots in the first, so much respect shown by Wawrinka to Kedders game. Eurosport pundits saying Kedders spent pre season again with Andy and its all rubbing off very well on him. Marvellous
Lindsay Davenport summed up the match pretty nicely on Tennis Channel. Kyle is still looking to dominate early with his forehand and from the second set onwards Stan was able to prevent Kyle getting into attacking positions on the forehand side. The difference in playing a top class player who can vary tactics is the next challenge for Kyle to overcome as he does not yet have the experience to change his gameplan once his opponent figures out how to neutralize his big weapon (sorry matron).
Overall the TC panel think he is getting better and better against the top guys and believe his movement is much improved, the consensus seemed to be that he will be beating top 10 players sometime this year and potentially joining them in the not too distant future.
On a non-GB note, Thanasi Kokkinakis and Jordan Thompson, having put out Pouille and Wawrinka and Herbert and Mahut, have now knocked out Daniel Nestor and ERV 6-3 6-1. Not bad for an 'unranked' (because of Kokkinakis' long time off) WC team.
It's been taking some of the world's best to stop Kedders these last few months and even they've had a struggle at times so I think TC are pretty spot on there.
Plenty of time for KKK, a couple of years back I had a very brief chat with one of the Ozzie coaches at WimbQ who felt he was the real deal. Good to see him back.
What a great start for Kyle The pre-season training with Vinny Gillespie ...... and that other Scot n Miami seems to do him no halm, there is a lot that is very healthy about some of the relationships in British tennis.
