Early activity in 2017

With the present lack of activity I decided to list a few events we can look forward to.

In the week commencing 2nd January

Jo Konta is at the WTA Shenzhen International

Naomi Broady - WTA Aukland International

Heather Watson - Hopman Cup in Perth with Daniel Evans

Tara Moore and Laura Robson at the Hong Kong $25K

In the week commencing 9th January

Jo Konta - WTA Premier Sydney

Katie Swan _ Daytona Beach $25K

Laura Deigman and Alice Gillan - Martinique $15K

Good to see Hev and Dan in the Hopman cup. With Kvitova now gone it's quite an open competition.

Hopefully Katie Swan is fit and healthy. Those January 25k's in Florida are very strong.

9th January - Tier 1 - Billesley - entries not closed yet, but include Christie, Grey, Dean, Boulter and Brown
16th January - Tier 1 - Bath - entries not closed yet, but include Grey and Dean

So Eleanor is planning on playing 4 weeks in a row? And then I suppose will play the 3 domestic 15k's. That's a lot of tennis coming back from yet another injury.

Yes, it is a lot, but the first week in only tier 2, so mainly juniors, with Manisha Foster the only ranked player, and shouldn't be too hard. I am surprised about Billesley though - I'd have thought that might have been a week off.

Great to see Eleanor Dean, this time hopefully for much longer, all the best to her. Also Manisha Foster.

Fran Stephenson and Anna Brogan seem to be the remaining women's ranked players most clearly out for some time with Jazzamay Drew a few months too. Sam Murray has been on lists before withdrawing so hopefully not far off.

Haven't seen any news on the 'missing' players.

Eleanor I guess just wants matches for now and if it initially goes really well and she plays a lot she can withdraw from a later tournament.

Manisha missed a large part of the summer, but played in November, and played a charity match against Lucy Brown yesterday.
I haven't seen the others on any list anywhere either.

Looking forward to seeing Eleanor play, was a great prospect as a young junior. Just can't help but think that with so much time out injured she will never fulfill that promise which is a real shame.

She's still young! I certainly wouldn't write her off as unlikely to fulfill early promise - and hope that she fulfills all her goals.

Yes, still only 20 - still plenty of time to achieve her goals

Surely Laura will get into the Aus open quallies? How close is she?

The current cut-off shown on tennisforum.com is WR 210 from last Monday's rankings allowing for some early withdrawals. Laura is WR 222.

There are just 96 in women's qualifying against 128 for the men, which doesn't help.

With Aljaz moving up, Tara is our only man or woman in Aussie Open Qualifying for now, though of course 7 in the main draws is historically very good

I would have thought Laura would make it in if she wants it. Ivanovic looks like withdrawing soon plus WC's to be announced.
