British teenager Andy Murray is tipped to be named ATP Newcomer of the Year at an awards ceremony in Miami.
The 18-year-old has risen 378 places in the world rankings over the last 12 months to his current position of 41st.
The Scot has also picked up his first ATP title, beating top five players Andy Roddick and Lleyton Hewitt, and taken over as British number one.
The joint ATP/WTA event, which begins at 0145 GMT on Wednesday, will also honour the overall players of the year.
Roger Federer is expected to be named the ATP's best player, while the women's award will be closely fought between Kim Clijsters, Justine Henin-Hardenne and Lindsay Davenport.
In the men's newcomer category, Murray's main rival is former world junior number one Gael Monfils of France.
Previous winners of the award include Rafael Nadal, Roddick, Juan Carlos Ferrero and Marat Safin.
The awards ceremony is being held in Miami ahead of the Nasdaq-100 Open which begins on Wednesday.

Despite rising 378 places in the world rankings over the last year, Murray was seen off by Monfils, who won an ATP title last year and reached two finals.
The joint ATP/WTA event also named Swiss star Roger Federer as the men's best player, while the women's award was won by Belgian Kim Clijsters.
Selected men's comeback player of the year was James Blake.
The ATP doubles team of the year went to Californian twins Bob and Mike Bryan, while American Lisa Raymond and Australian Samantha Stosur took the women's doubles honours.
Federer, 24, had a stunning season, compiling an 81-4 record and capturing a circuit-leading 11 titles including Wimbledon and the US Open.
The Swiss player became only fifth player in the 32-year history of the Association of Tennis Professionals rankings to hold the top spot every week during the calendar year.
Clijsters, who rose to number two in the rankings after a wrist injury sidelined her for most of 2004, won nine titles and captured her first Grand Slam singles title at the US Open.
She was also named the women's comeback player of the year.
