I make that 11 wins in a row for Jay. Three more would probably see him in that magical Top 500 before the end of the year. Who would have believed that just a few weeks ago.

1 down, 2 to go. No pressure Jay
That presupposes his being able to get the better of Wu, who came through against the fourth seed, Bai Yan, when the latter retired, (almost certainly) the Japanese second seed, Imai (WR 499 [= CH]) & then (again, almost certainly) either the top seed, Sekiguchi (WR 337 [CH = 259 in May 2014), or Yuki bloody Bhambri (3/WR 534 [CH = 88 in November last year]). A pretty tall order, methinks - not that I shan't be keeping my fingers crossed, you understand!

Nobody said it would be easy SC, but that is why it would be all the more satisfying if he could achieve it. Let's be honest, 3 months ago we would have been happy to see him inside the Top 1000 by the end of the year. But with the roll that he is on at the moment, anything is possible.
He only has to reach the final to get there, not win the tournament. A victory of Wu, who as you have said, came through only when the seed retired, would get him one win away. And what better way to enter the top 500 than by beating the player ranked 499. There is a sort of poetic symmetry to that, me thinks.
As you say, a final against Sekiguchi or Bhambri, would be a tall order, but that would be a bonus as the Top 500 status would almost certainly have already been achieved by then.
"UNR" for a team that has one member at 142 seems a bit misleading at Futures level.
A fine week, even if just short of what was hoped for. And gives a wee bit of time for a 'holiday' of sorts. Hope those not in qualifying (and those in qualifying, if possible) have at least some time for festivities!
Jay on the fall, will evidently drop outside the top 40 in the race ( currently the live race showing him as down 3 to #42 ) Seriously, yes, can't win them all and his opponent is also a young player with a good junior ranking.
As an aside, it appears* ( well I have just noticed recently ) that not only are futures points now being instantly added to live-tennis.eu/en/atp-race they are being added to the actual ATP race tables on the following Monday rather than a week's delay.
I wonder if this is a precursor to avoiding the week's delay in adding ( and subtracting ) futures points in the 52 week ranking table. As some folk have commented it seems this should be possible nowadays and that would help players have good weeks earlier recognised on entry lists. If they can do it for the Race ...
* - I will check Jay's 2 points add to his race points on Monday but I am pretty sure they will from a couple of prior observations.
PS: Actually I am now more confused since the live race table now hasn't added this week's points ( to his 50 ). I have not been early overdulging early for Christmas so don't think I was imagining all this. I will still check the actual ATP Race table on Monday
PS 2: From last week's Qatar futures, Jonny's 1 point and Scott's 2 points are indeed included in their race total points of 19 and 4 respectively.

Hmm. It would make so much sense - hope that the changes really are to incorporate futures results earlier. I didn't, by the way, mean that our UNR was misleading - thanks to the excellent system of showing the teams, we're the recipients of clear information. But the fact that having one partner who's unranked (for whatever reason) renders any team, for official purposes, a simple UNR, when the pairing could be anything from two people playing their first Futures tournament to a top-notch player and someone new can make for results that look odd on paper, but aren't at all. And 142 is actually quite high for a futures match.
Yes, get you Spectator, probably be wary of UNR pair including Jamie Murray !
PS ( loving PS today) I might too be wary of a ranked pair Jamie & Andy Murray, CR 358. It's good that folk here, often particularly in doubles, add little bits of extra info altough admittedly in that case they probably don't need to point out that Andy is quite good at doubles. But maybe with some other player ...
"Lies, damned lies and statistics" they say, well statistics often without context.

PS 3: No doubt because of holidays and there anyway being no ATP tour or challenger events this past week the ATP rankings and race for Monday 26/12 are already updated today Saturday 24/12.
Hence for this week no futures additions re the last week. But the race was still certainly updating without a week's delay last week.
There are times I wish I never started something! But hopefully all will become much clearer in the new year.
For now Jay's race position remains as #39 on 50 points though he did score another 2 in the last week. As expected anyway his ranking points remain on 65, but because of other movements he is up 2 places to a further new CH of WR 535 with the 2 points still to add.
