2017 male ranking predictions

During the quiet period, it may be time to look at how you expect the 2017 rankings to pan out.

Lots of things to think about

Will Cam Norrie quit college and go pro?

Who is going to call it a day?

How quickly will Marcus Willis or Jay Clarke climb the rankings(assuming they do)?

Who will transition from juniors to seniors successfully?

I think marcus will climb to 420 although I believe that jay Clarke will be the biggest climber , ed corrie will peak in 2016 and start to drop down the rankings

90 Dan Evans

I'm a Frog fan and certainly don't want Cameron Norrie to go pro full-time. But in the U.S., he's allowed to play pro tourneys while still in college, and he's also allowed to take the fall and summer off from school as well, so he's already effectively a pro for 8 months out of the year in any event. And, he's also allowed to keep any money earned so long as it's balanced with expenses for a 12-month period which, with travel and accommodations and tennis gear bought, can really add up. In 2016, he earned about U.S.$28,000, so, as long as he also spent that amount, he's still an "amateur" for college eligibility. This is probably why he's going to play the Maui Challenger - flights to and from NZL and Maui and Ft. Worth, plus accommodations at the Royal Lahaina ranch in Ka'anapali can add up pretty quickly. Even in college this Spring, he's still expected to play at least one Futures tourney (Irving) and one Challenger tourney (B&P) in addition to the Maui Challenger, so he's still playing pro tourneys even while competing for TCU. But we need him to stay with the Frogs. In singles, he has a good chance to win the NCAA's in May and lead the team to a team championship as well - he's ranked #2 preseason and the team is ranked #3.

Our other British Frog - Alastair Gray - is currently ranked #1061 in singles and #1384 in doubles. He should make a move upward in 2017 as well. TCU's tennis coach is David Roditi, who also captained the Mexican Davis Cup this summer and he's really good at developing players. And another Anglo/TCU connection is ex-Frog Esteban Carril, who became the coach for Johanna Konta 2 and 1/2 years ago when she was ranked 147th. Now, even though they parted ways a week or so ago, she's up to the Top 10, the first time a British woman player has done that since 1984 (when Jo Durie did it). And we also follow Luke Bambridge, who frequently partners with Norrie in doubles and has worked out at the TCU facility often - he's up to #564 in singles and #215 in doubles.
