that feels like a good win for Marcus in his first serious event back. Beating a guy just outside top 300 and quite easily suggests Marcus should be capable of moving back up the rankings and into the top 300 himself in the next few months, presumably he has very little to defend over the next period?
It appears that Marcus has 2 points to defend in January, and 70 from Wimbledon - nothing else at all, so he should be able to make a fair bit of progress. This week alone will give him a jump of around 40 places, more if he wins the final
This was probably the first real test for Marcus. Perez Sanz is a decent player at this level as his ranking suggests and I remember he gave Kyle a good match a couple of years back in Spain. Marcus though has passed this test with flying colours which is great to see. At least those who paid appearance money for Marcus (if that is what happened) have got their money's worth.
Hoping Marcus can complete the double and win both titles this week.

well, that is promising. Maybe he can make ranking head way and some more appearance money on the side!!
Well lets face it he should be winning futures titles. Lets see if he goes and gets a few wins under his belt before a crack at challengers in March time before the clay season starts...

Hi Jaffa, I am sure you are right, he should move much higher than 500+ and win these types of events. But after effectively no competition in 12 months (Wimbledon aside and whooping it up in Vienna) at least he is back and winning. It would be good if someone else can bridge the big gap we have between the half dozen or so players in the 200-350 range and then a big gap down to the next batch, we need a few more battling to try and make top 200 again.

Hi John, I completely agree with you. It was a good bit of scheduling from Marcus to play here to be fair regardless of whether he got appearance money. Very much looking forward to following Marcus' progress over the next 12 months. It will be very interesting to see how far he can ride the crest of the wave, so to speak.
David and Marcus are absolutely walking the doubles final as I write.
