RE: Week 45- Challenger ($50,000) - Knoxville, TN, USA (indoor hard)

L16:  Ed Corrie WR 280 defeated Sam Groth (AUS) WR 184 by 3-6 6-3 7-6(3)  ban-woohoo.gif

Didn't think Ed had it in him to get the better of the cannonball-serving Aussie!  Raising Hat Emoticon by Weapons-Expert-Cool to him, especially with a tie-break involved.  That result has made my day! biggrin

I haven't been following Ed much lately but he must have been doing mighty impressive to surge into the top 30 these last few months.

I misses the last 3 games, but I'm not at all surprised that he came through - he certainly had the edge, and a good game plan. Please, don't let anyone coach Sam on how to volley a low ball !

Ed is one more win away from becoming circa 250 rankings wise and now our most likely prospect for Aus Open qualies. Still two more challengers left in this trip as well.

No reason why he can't beat Kozlov, Groth is tough usually a Brit basher too.

I'm with you SC - that result made my day too

I saw most of the first two sets but couldn't watch the third.

Lot of respect for the way Ed applies himself.

Late to the party, but agree - great win for Ed Corrie! And great to see him doing well generally.

Fantastic win for Ed. Ed is serving particularly well himself at the moment, in my view!

Evo has tweeted that he's done for the year, so possibly there was an injury seeing as he was down to play next week. Guess it's been a long tough year playing consistently at a higher level than he's been used to and perhaps it's starting to tell on the body.

Things have hardly gone swimmingly for Evo since the US Open so hopefully he'll get his body and mind back into tip top shape and hit the first ATP events of new New Year hard.

Surely we won't see him in any more Challengers? You could almost touch the look of disdain on his face watching those old geezers acting as ballboys in Knoxville, such was its intensity!
