Does anyone know how doubles entry worked? I had presumed there wasn't any before I looked at the OOP.

Here's the part from the rules (Appendix IX, B, 2, a, ii)

There is a bit more about it in the succeeding sections regarding wild cards/penalties etc, but I find myself rapidly losing the will to live reading it all.

Hmm. On principle, the idea that eight players get 17 tournaments and the rest of the field (including those directly competing with them) 16 does not seem right. Doubt it makes any difference whatsoever if you go below WR20, but it does make it harder to break in from 12 - 20.

Surely at this time in the year it had all evened out again, so if you do well in the calendar year, you get the bonus. I accept it's about rough on the seedings for the whole next year, but I'm also not sure how you'd make that fairer.

Timea Babos in as the alt, faces Timea Bacsinszky tomorrow. (6) Bacsinszky now has a WC and an ALT in her group.

Jo vs Sam Stosur follows that match tomorrow.

Haven't ever needed to think about it before from a GBR perspective; but I had a vague feeling that these events were "bonus" points counters. It seems odd in principle if you've done well all season to qualify that if you lose all your matches you could end up worse off than if you hadn't qualified. What about those who qualified but opted out of coming? Ah well, what will be will be and it's nice to even have to think about it! smile

Even if Zhuhai is not a bonus counter you couldn't lose points by doing relatively badly there. If your Zhuhai points didn't beat your existing 16th counter you would just stay on the same points.

The real argument is the principle, if you have a full set of counters, of 'losing' relative to the tour finals players who clearly have added 'bonuses'.

Ah yes; I obviously wasn't thinking about it very carefully! I was assuming (wrongly) that it would act like a mandatory.

So, even if Jo gets the maximum 700 (here's hoping!) she's still lagging behind the #9 spot at Year End.

But still inside the top 10 so Steven's chart can break its long-time duck...

Bacsinszky trounced by WC, 6-1 6-1, so not necessarily an easy group.

There is no indication of Jo's match being streamed, at the moment: I thought it had been said that BT sport are covering the tournament from today ?

Comfortable win for Jo 6-4 6-2. I thought Stosur might have proved a bigger challenge, but Jo was clearly the better player.

Dominant!
Especially on return: 53% won on 1st return, 44% on 2nd

Stosur playing to impress her new coach, but Jo made it look relatively routine.

That was superb. Still mindblowing that we are watching Jo Konta routine a player like Stosur, and we just shrug our shoulders and move on as if it's no big deal. Absolutely insane what's she's done these past 15 months
