I am a bit curious about Jamie Whiteford's PR and the ITF acceptance list does indicate a PR of 920.
He has certainly not been seen for some considerable time, but I have read from time to time people indicating that PRs only apply at much higher rankings.
Plus, he actually has been ranked not really that much lower than that until very recently ( though not 920 at all so it does indeed appear a special ranking ) and was finally ranked WR 1013 on 17/10 before becoming unranked just last week when his existing 10 points came off. So he would have had no trouble getting into the main draw on normal ranking criteria anyway.
Well Alastair has an interesting match up with Aidan and nice to see college standout ......... Mark Whitehouse back, it will be very interesting to see how he moves forward with his tennis.
Should be a good day
Yes. Some posting re Mark in last week's Estonia thread too, after his recent good run there - as you say, he must have SO many options, that young man, that it will be interesting to see where tennis comes in his priority list.
Ewan has beaten Alexis by retirement very early in the match. Such a shame for Alexis following his qualifying win yesterday and I hope he is OK, but at least it is another Brit who benefits.
I'm guessing that Hu is an underanked college player. Americans at that level in the rankings at the age of 22 seem to fit the profile. A very decent battling win from Joel.
Nicholas Hu is another one of the Paly High (Silicon Valley) boys of Chinese decent who are uber academic and can play sport! You may remember Jeremy Lynn who still makes a living playing basketball for the Nets. Paly High, Harvard, NBA not the classical pathway.
Hu is made of the same stuff not bad in college tennis ranked in top 100 ish last time I looked but probably not quite good enough at tennis to literally cross the road from his school and go to Stanford or perhaps desperate to get away from mum and dad and try something new.
Rumour has it that when he takes on whitehouse they are going to forgo tie breaks for a calculus quiz!
