RE: Week 44 - South Africa F1 ($10,000) - Stellenbosch (hard)

The third seed strikes back, taking the second set by 6-1.  cry  Here's hoping he can psych himself up for the decider.

That's a very good win. If anything, I'd say Scholtz is underranked. Well done, Jay Clarke!

SF:  Jay Clarke WR 931 vs (2) Lloyd [George Muirhead!] Harris (RSA) WR 288 (= CH)

It was almost the Hungarian 6th seed, Gabor Borsos (WR 725), who served for the match at 5-4 in the second set, only to be broken. hmm

Finally I get a chance to fully comment on today's result which was indeed an excellent one. These are exciting times for Jay and for those of us who follow every result. Let's hope his form continues and he is able to build further on the fantastic progress he is making at the present.

I am hoping he decides to play a futures somewhere in my neck of the woods over the next few months so that I can get to see him play live. Perhaps Portugal in early March next year might be on his agenda, assuming Vale de Lobo / Faro etc repeat their 2016 schedule.

Well played Jay. Good luck in the SF. What you have shown so far over the last few weeks is that anything is possible. Go for it.

Just to add my congrats too.

An excellent result. Building on a momentum of increasingly good results over the past couple of months.

Showing the wisdom of waving goodbye to juniors and focusing on the tennis to come.

Wishing him and his family the very best, too, as it hasn't always been easy.

NB Bob, I feel you could manage an epic 'Bob-mobile' moment, even if he doesn't turn up quite in your neck of the woods. What's a few thousand k when you've got wheels like yours?

(PS I'm just grateful I only had to go to Roehampton to see the boy play ! And well worth it it was....)

Just want to say thanks to everyone for all the lovely comments, it's great to see so much support for Jay. Really proud of him, all his hard work day in day out starting to pay off. Hopefully this is just the beginning

It is great to see sacrifice and hard work paying off and Jay standing out so clearly in that 18 to 20 age group.

Thanks to Jay and those around him for giving us a young player so worthy of support.

Sad to see Jay retire but hope it's just a lot of tennis, not an actual injury:

SF: Jay Clarke WR 931 lost to (2) Lloyd Harris (RSA) WR 288 (= CH) 6-3 1-0 retired

Yes. A real shame that his week should end that way. Please Yaz3890, let us know what the problem is. I hope it is not serious.

What a sad way to end a great week.  I share CD's hope that the retirement was as a result of Jay's just being "tennised out" ( *ouch* ) rather than any actual physical injury.

Hi All,
Sad to end such a good week on a retirement. Jay was struggling with an ab strain over the last couple of days and on the Physio's advice he retired.. he's had some treatment and it's feeling better already. Fingers crossed he'll be back to full fitness for next week
Thanks again everyone
