Kyle isn't listed to play on Monday, so presumably it'll be Tuesday before he sees off Ferrer. Murray looks to be playing tomorrow too.

QR1: (qwc) Marcus Willis WR 496 lost to (q8) Radu Albot (MDA) WR 101 (CH 85 in August 2015)

R1: (1) Andy Murray WR 2 vs Martin Klizan (SVK) WR 35 ( CH 24 in April 2015)

First meeting. In an apparently fairly full season Klizan hasn't done a great deal other than the two weeks when he won ATP 500 titles! ( these titles from Rotterdam and Hamburg contributing 1,000 out of his 1,230 ranking points )

R1: Kyle Edmund WR 40 vs (5) David Ferrer WR 19 ( CH 3 in July 2013 )

H2H 1-0, just last week 6-1 3-6 7-6(3) to Kyle in the Antwerp L16

We have already lost the second seed, Tomas Berdych, beaten by qualifier Nikoloz Basilashvili.

Kyle is in Andy's half, (3) Dominic Thiem's quarter. The other seed in Andy's quarter is (7) Lucas Pouille.

Just turned on Skye to catch Kyle's match, only to see him shaking hands with Ferrer and walking off court having retired.  Not sure how far the match went, but certainly not far.

It was *3-2 to Ferrer at the time, Kyle having been broken in his first service game I think. Not sure why he retired.

Radio reported a hip injury.

Pity, but no doubt the right thing to do if there was an issue there that could have become more serious.

Very wise indeed. Never mess with injury. I was really impressed by the interview the WTA did with Johanna Konta where she said her aim was to get through major injury free and play whole seasons, and after that, what came, came. Could imagine the temptation must have been serious to keep going to guarantee the Tour Finals place - but she's wise enough to know it's not worth it. Same here.

On to Mr Murray and the doubles. On which note, while Isner is a threat (that serve!) at least he's not with Jack Sock. I regard the latter as someone along the lines of Mirnyi or Zimonjic of old ... anyone they play with becomes more of a threat.

Article on the ATP website explaining that Jamie Murray flew out to Vienna in case his match was on early ... found out he was playing on Wednesday ... went back to London to receive his OBE from the Queen ... and then went back out to Vienna: www.atpworldtour.com/en/news/jamie-murray-receives-obe-buckingham-palace-2016

Not, perhaps, the best preparation for a match ... but if you're going to have less preparation, that's a fairly good reason for it! Congratulations to him.
