Freya holds to love to put the pressure on Min again 6-2 6-5*
Quite surprised that Freya has never beaten a top 150 player before (well overdue given her talent), so not surprising if this turns out to be tough to close out.

GB on a shirt, Davis Cup still gleaming, 79 years of hurt, never stopped us dreaming ... 29/11/2015 that dream came true!
Looked well deserved with my impression she was into every return game in the second set without getting a break until the one that finally mattered.
Points 43-32 in the second set bear this out ( and while always it's games and sets that really count it was an indication of the general balance ). First set was 28-15.

Harriet vs Freya in R2 with the winner looking very like going to a new CH ( they each look just short for now ) and that would be a particular nice mark for Freya. Though just all the best both.
Harriet WR 353, CH 345 ( added 8-5, net 3 so far ) Freya WR 312, CH 301 ( added 8-2, net 6 so far )
Harriet just ahead in points now won this year ( Freya has quite a bit to defend yet, Harriet nothing after this week ) at 112 to 110.
The other seed in their quarter is also out.

Eight and a half hours after CiCi Bellis began the day's proceedings on the same court with her R2 match it looks as if Katie B should soon be off and running with her R1 match.

( no doubt there is some rhyme or reason ... )
A few short matches earlier (56,48,53 mins) meant an early finish - can only assume that the 18:30 start time was intended to be an evening session - it is an indoor tournament anyway
The winner is likely to play the lower ranked of their two possible opponents 16 year old Bianca Andreescu 412, JCH=3. She has already beaten Lauren Albanese, her opponent, once this year. She has also lost a very close three set match to Harriet this year.
Great results for Harriet and Freya, I have really been impressed by Harriets's capacity to grind out a result.
I would love to see Freya pick up a run of form like she had in the Far East in the run up to Wimbledon, unfortunately she struggled with injury during and immediately after so hasn't quite pushed on in the way I had anticipated. Watching her power game gives you much hope for her future, I still feel it is just a question of being patient.
The next step for this whole cohort of girls to achieve a rank that gets them into GS MD qualifying other than Wimbledon. Interesting that Harriet is now in a slightly better position than Freya, I have no idea of their future schedules but probably too much of an ask for the AO?
