It's a real youngsters event, this one.

Bianca Andreescu (age 16), Cici Bellis (age 17), Katherine Sebov (age 17), Charlotte Robillard-Millette (age 17) and Marie Bouzkova (age 18, born 1998) are all through to the second round (and with Charlotte beating the 5th seed).

Shame that Katie couldn't join them. It was a tough draw. One of the toughest. But it shows the depth in youngsters amongst the girls.

Grace Min is probably the player of whom I have the lowest regard for their game of any that I can recall to have ever made the Top 100.
But this is still very good from Freya. Finish it off
