Steven points out that this is the first time Bambo had beaten Will in three attempts AND that Will was last week's winner. So even more kudos to Luke for getting the job done.
AND his team won their doubles match (their first one, after a BYE and a W/O) and are into the final. Another tight match.
Semifinal
Luke BAMBRIDGE (GBR) / Evan KING (USA) [1] def. Hunter REESE (USA) / Jackson WITHROW (USA) [3] 3-6 6-3 [10-8]
This is a very good doubles win indeed. Both the opponents graduated college last year, one from Texas A&M and one from Tennessee and each during their time as college players reached #1 in dubs and Reese also won the NCAAs in dubs.
So pleased for Bambo. I was beginning to wonder if his singles career would take a backseat and he was going to focus on doubles. If he could finish the week off with a win in the final, that would be a tremendous confidence boost for him.
SF: (6) Luke Bambridge WR 544 beat (8) Benjamin Lock (ZIM) WR 622 (=CH) by 3 & 4
FINAL: (6) Luke Bambridge WR 544 v Dominik Köpfer (GER) WR 905 (CH 904 last week)
This will be Luke's first Futures singles final of the year and despite what seems to have been a disappointing year for him in singles (and he does still have lots of points to defend this year, mainly from his title win, SF & runner-up performances in Doha last December), he is now just one win away from a return to the top 500 and a new career high!
