Great result - pity I missed the whole second set

Wow, that was quick Kyle, straight out the blocks again to a dominant first set, bish-bash-bosh and in the shower. Good lad.

Top 40 looks likely now. According to Live Rankings, only Stephane Robert can stop that he he would have to win the title in Moscow.

And we know Kyle can beat Gasquet having done so at the USO. No place for complacency on Kyle's part as Gasquet will not want a repeat dose.

Gasquet was reportedly injured and a bit out of form the day they played at the USO, not to take anything away from Kyle of course. This week he's only dropped 12 games in 2 matches so I would expect this to be rather a different game. But as long as the result's the same that's all that matters smile

Certainly true about Gasquet at the US Open, he was often just not getting through the ball and consequently short on power.

Kyle though does seem to be playing better than ever.

Interesting ...

I felt the injury defence was a little generous to Mr Gasquet at the USO, Kyle played well and has improved. We learn quite how generous (or not) very soon.

No doubt Kyle was excellent that day and deserved the win but, to me at least, it was clear Gasquet was struggling with his back and being underpowered off the ground was never going to help when up against the fearhand. You're absolutely right though, Kyle has improved and seems to do so with almost every week. Looking forward to seeing how it goes tomorrow.

Oakland, I doubt you would find anyone here that doesn't think Kyle has improved, gee quite clearly he has! I'd say markedly in recent months on top of very good steady growth over recent years. He's doing great.

But with Kyle, as with all players, many of us do discuss other relevant factors to players' matches, liking to add context ( we'd sure mention if an opponent had been on a great run of form ). Kyle did play well vs Gasquet at the US Open, but Gasquet was visibly underpowered in that match, which seemed to tie in with points made about a back issue affecting his play in that match and his form coming into the US Open.

Whatever happens in this coming match ( and hopefully Kyle wins, which looks very possible ) doesn't change what was the situation in the US Open match. Gasquet won't suddenly not have had a back issue.
