Week 42 - Challenger (€106,500+H) - Brest, France (hard)

One of the closest Challengers to the UK but only one Brit seems to be giving it a go (admittedly, most of the likely lads are in the western US at the moment!) - a 19-year-old whose two previous forays in ATP-ranked events were QR1 losses in French Futures events earlier this year:

QR1: (wc) Stuart Parker UNR v Andriej Kapas (POL) WR 478 (CH 323 in 2015)

I have thought before that British tennis players do seem to have an aversion to competing in France.

Yes, and they seem to have even more of an aversion to competing in Germany, where the Challengers and Futures tend to be very well run, as I imagine Neil (one of the few Brits who does venture over there sometimes) would confirm.

Thrilled to see Stuart get a wildcard here.

As anyone who follows the French league tennis knows, he's the young Channel Island player who's been playing a lot of French money tournaments (and doing well), plays for the same team as Scott Clayton (not that surprisingly) in French league and seems like quite a serious young player.

Tricky draw though.... but it's a Challenger ....

Thanks for the background info, CD. He lost but managed 5 games, which isn't bad for an unranked player taking on someone in the top 500:
