RE: Week 41 - ATP Masters 1000 - Shanghai, PRC (hard)

I'm quite encouraged by Kyle's progress, he seems to be getting rather good at qualifying for these main tour events wink

Indeed. Mr Murray's draw is pretty horrendous, though.

Good solid win, well done kyle. His live race ranking hits 40 now. V impressive - if he has a strong last few weeks indoors, is it possible Kyle could reach a seeding position for Australian Open? No doubt that will jinx any possibility but worth asking the question of those who follow these things more closely?!

Goodness he's doing well. Pity the Argentines didn't, in fact, play their highest ranked player at number one in the DC ....

Stan the Man next - whereas I don't expect a win, it'll certainly be a good guage of Kyle's level against the top guys.

Well done today and a new CR of 45

For the record (with today's rankings):

L64: (Q) Kyle Edmund WR 48 (= CH) defeated Federico Delbonis (ARG) WR 46 by 6-3 5-7 6-4  biggrin

*****

L32:  (Q) Kyle Edmund WR 48 vs (3) Stan Wawrinka (SUI) WR 3 (= CH)

No head-to-head, surprise, surprise!

L32:  Steve Johnson (USA) WR 24 (CH = 21 in July) vs (2) Andy Murray WR 2

Let's extrapolate. Kyle destroyed Dan in Dallas last year, Dan took Stan to the brink at the US open. Stan stands no chance!

Another great piece of news to wake up to. After defeat in the DC semi final, Leon called for more consistency from Dan and Kyle in the ATP events. Dans efforts appear to have been hampered by injury, unfortunately, but Kyle is doing exactly what was being asked of him. I also like the fact that he is digging out results deep in the 3rd set. Its one thing to blast your opponent off court with a big forehand, but at the levels Kyle is aiming for, that isn't going to happen every week, so the mental toughness required to win close matches is equally as important and Kyle is showing right now that he has that in abundance as well.
