Considering who Jo put out in R1, I'd agree that I can't see a preconceived tactical withdrawal here.
Not to say that her issue is not necessarily fairly minor and we might possibly see her again as early as next week. Whatever, I do hope she sees some end of season action, preferably in Singapore since ( whether or not Zhuhai is arguably better for her straight tenniswise and of course would still be a great achievement ) Singapore is THE place to want to be.

Not a great idea, I think, to impute base motives to someone without quite a lot of evidence. In Ms Konta's case, we have seen none. In both cases, as I understand it, a late withdrawal with no medical purpose would have resulted in a mandatory zero pointer. That's no excuse for just being bored - but it is something which places a considerable burden on people who may recognise that they are too tired to play well or who have done themselves minor damage and are concerned about exacerbating it.
A shame for Jo that her run was cut short here by injury (that we now know for certain is genuine) and all she can do now is wait and watch as everyone else in the race keeps winning. Cibulkova has found the grey courts of Linz to her liking and is now behind Jo only on the tie-breaker. At least as she plays Suarez Navarro next, one of them has to lose tomorrow!

Come on CSN !
And both those two are entered for Moscow, so next week will be just as tense............
Poor Jo, I only hope that she'll be ready for Zhuhan if she doesn't make Singapore. She's had a great season, so maybe it wasn't meant to be this year.
