Week 40 - ITF ($25K) - Redding CA, USA - Hard

Fantastic win - what a week!

FOUR British women in singles SFs at 25Ks & above (i.e. JoKo) on Saturday with none of the three in 25K SFs even seeded

Also, Katie is the 10th British woman to have picked up over 100 WTA singles points since 1 January. In 2015, only 6 managed it in the whole year! (not to mention that the overall total points, thanks mainly to JoKo, are massively up on last year)

I saw someone tweet some interesting info after the QFs. Got much better ...

We now have 4 women into SFs ( a Premier Mandatory and three ITF 25Ks ) on 4 different continents, none of whom were even seeded to reach the QF.

QF: (Q) Katie Boulter WR 402 beat (5) Sesil Karatantcheva (BUL) WR 226 (CH 35 in November 2005 aged 16) 6-7(8) 6-4 6-1

SF: (Q) Katie Boulter WR 402 vs (1) Sachia Vickery (USA) WR 152 (CH 108 in July 2015)

Sadly ...

SF: (Q) Katie Boulter WR 402 lost to (1) Sachia Vickery (USA) WR 152 (CH 108 in Jul) by ret. - Vickery was 6-1 1-0 up

Have to hope it's just all those matches catching up with her rather than something more serious.

But assuming she's still intact, a great week for Katie.

Yes do hope Katie's OK.

She's done well, tough year at times, but it seems to be coming together and from starting the year from scratch she's now going to be back to about 20 places off her CH 340. Has the potential to really push on far above that mark.

Oh and you predictors out there that maybe took a plunge that she would be back and doing pretty decently she's now going to go GB #10 on Monday week, close behind #9 Harriet.

Commiserations to Katie - and hoping it's nothing serious cry

As for predictions, it's Katie S and Gabbie holding me back - didn't think that Katie B would have enough time to be a top 10 contender this year - good to see she's proving me wrong smile

Yep I think we forget Katie B lost so much time to injury last year just at the point that she was really going to get going as a senior.

It's been great seeing her get a good stretch of tennis in and I thing we underestimate the length of time it takes to get back not only to playing but then to playing your best.
