Week 40 - ATP 500 - China Open, Beijing (hard)

Didn't see it either although I noted that Andy was a break down at the start of the match before winning (at least) 5 games in a row to take that set.

Andy awaits the winner of Raonic v Dimitrov.

I missed watching it live, was it as routine as the score suggests ?

It was a real tussle - loads of long exhausting points (and that was just watching!).

Cancel that.  Apparently Raonic has withdrawn giving Dimitrov a W/O to the final.

Sounds like a typical Ferrer match then smile

I believe David Ferrer joins Gilles Simon on 14 as Andy's most beaten pro. Gilles though deserves to stay in first place on W/L difference.

Andy vs :
Simon : 14 W, 2 L
Ferrer : 14 W, 6 L

I see the doubles title was eventually won by Rafa & Pablo Carreņo in three sets!

Andy takes the 1st set 6-4 despite a 1st serve %age of just 29%.

Formally:

Final:  (1) Andy Murray WR 2 vs Grigor Dimitrov (BUL, but described as Russian by a BBC sports reporter yesterday!  rolleyes.gif ) WR 20 (CH = 8 in August 2014)

The head-to-head is 7-3 in Andy's favour, with one win apiece this year (Andy at the USO, Dimi at the Miami Masters).

Andy's a , capturing his fifth title of the year, though not without a bit of a stutter, being broken to love when serving for the match at 5-4 in the second:

Final: (1) Andy Murray WR 2 defeated Grigor Dimitrov (BUL) WR 20 by 6-4 7-6(2)

It's his first China Open title. smile

Yay !

Wee rest for eight points from when serving for it at *5-4. But decent TB ( and pretty pish one from Dimitrov ) sees him home.

Apparently he's hardly practiced since his quad injury at the Davis Cup and surprised himself here. Nice surprise then

Very good Andy - just fooling Grigor into thinking he had a chance. Nice match to watch and good to see Grigor playing well again, but not quite well enough thankfully.
