Week 39 - Sweden F4($25,000) - Danderyd (Stockholm) (indoor hard)

L32:  (1) Liam Broady WR 279 (CH = 158 in August last year) vs (Q) Jacob Adaktusson (SWE) WR 1748 (CH = 214 in March 2006 - blimey!  He's 36!)

L32:  (LL) Mert Altinalev (TUR) WR 1748 (= CH) vs (5) Ed Corrie WR 336 (CH = 215 in October 2014)

The boys are in the same quarter of the draw.  hmm

So Liam drops down to Futures to get some matches under his belt and build his confidence. He goes to France first, is seeded 3, draws a guy in R1 (Romain Jouan) who has a CH ranking circa 200 and loses in 3 sets. Jouan goes on to win the tournament dropping only one further set in the entire week - to Ed Corrie.

Liam then heads to Sweden as top seed and what happens ? In R1 of the draw, he draws a player with a CH ranking of circa 200.

These may well be 25ks and not just 10ks, but it is pretty bad fortune as a seeded player to have such tough draws in R1 on consecutive weeks. Let's hope he can survive this one and get on a roll.

On the flip side of that, the 8 players in the top quarter of the draw, are Liam, Ed, 3 qualifiers, 2 WCs and a LL. Got to hope that one or other of the Brits will make it through that section.

I'm not convinced a CH from 10 yrs ago is going to be a major issue. Liam should come through.

I so want Liam to have a good run this week, just to get some match practice (and winning practice) under his belt before heading back into Challengers next week in the USA. This was not the most "eye-catching" of matches or results for Liam, but right now, any win is very welcome.

Agreed, BiS. Wins are good, and you can only win against the person in front of you. Well done, and hope Mr Corrie is through quickly, too.

The boys meet in the QF if they both win their second round matches. hmm

Hoping that the guys are on course to meet up in the QF. Would prefer it to be either a SF or Final, but I will take it.
