Good thinking by Heather and Chang to turn their QR1 match into a one set affair with letting each other ease through a set. Needed to conserve energy.
And nicely warmed up for her FQR, it seems to be going rather well.
Excellent effort by Heather to win back to back matches - looks like she broke Crawford's resistance by winning the tie-break and ran away with it the second set.
R1: (Q) Heather WATSON (GBR) 73 v. Madison BRENGLE (USA) 70 (CH 35, Apr. 2015)
> H2H 2-0
> 2015 Hobart, Australia - WTA International - Hard - F - Watson by 3 & 4
> 2010 Quebec City, Canada - WTA International - Hard, Indoor - QR2 - Watson by 1 & 3
R1: Johanna KONTA (GBR) [11] 13 v. Annika BECK (GER) 47 (CH 37, Jul. 2016)
> H2H 1-1
> 2015 Linz, Austria - WTA International - Hard - R32 - Konta by 1 & 3
> 2011 Shrewsbury, UK - ITF $75K - Hard - R16 - Beck by 3 & 4
Good draw for Heather, winning head to head and Brengle is not in good form, losing 7 or her last 8. Heather was also on 7 defeats out of 8 coming in, but has the confidence boost of 2 wins in a day today.
Looks like Heather's match will be Monday, which begs the question why she had to play twice today? Luckily this is now a moot point as Heather won anyway.
