Certainly very far from Kyle's court of choice. Questions have been asked about him on a fast court before with his shot prep and movement though his movement has been generally improving.
Got to dig in and find ways though when the wind, the courtspeed or whatever it may be, is not to your liking.
I partially agree with you but lets not think of this as a minor factor. Nobody would seriously rebuke Evo for losing a match on clay to to a guy ranked 130 and while that comparison isn't perfect we should be making similar allowances for Kyle on this kind of court.
What does concern me more is Kyle's tendency just to fade away in matches like this. Even if he does lose I want to see him dig in and make a fight of it. Pospisil is a very fragile player mentally and often struggles in long matches. Kyle needs to be asking some questions of him and with the prospect of Pospisil playing 3 times in 3 days we want him kept out there as long as possible.

The third set might have been closer but the result was honestly never in doubt. The body language of both players throughout the set told the story, they both knew who was going to win.
Top and accomplished performance from Dan (never doubted him ). He really impressed me today with how he handled everything. Very entertaining match to watch, seemed like it flew by. I enjoyed the BBC commentary and it's always good to see things comfortably heading the way you want them to in a sporting event.
Kyle's performance was a sad story. But still, one day down and all to play for.
Of course Kyle is still maturing as a player in many ways, but he has turned 22, is top 50 and has had a fair number of big matches now. He should have more strategies for change already in place, a so-called Plan B at least. This was a match to be winning here and now.
He does every so often put in a fairly inexplicable performance, seemingly unrelated to form but maybe to circumstances. Now yes of course here the court didn't suit him but he didn't play well or as they said really find ways of changing things.
I do personally find Kyle a difficult watch when things aren't going well because of such a lack of emotional response. I realise it's not him to give out bad or indeed many good vibes, as said in the studio he's not a fist pumper. But when there is so little clue as to how he is feeling about things as I say I find it tough when a match of his is ebbing away. It may subconsciously effect the GB support too.
In 2 of his 3 DC matches before today he has effectively been taken out of a potential second match for whatever combination of his first match and how he has felt afterwards ( the third was of course his two good wins in Serbia on clay ). That clearly is not an option here and if it goes 2-2 he has to be ready to go in what would be a vibrant atmosphere and in a match he would be favourite to win.
Simple solution to getting more top players to play - don't schedule straight after a GS and reduce matches to best of 3.
No, No, No
I'll take the Davis Cup B05 without the top players over BO3 with them.
Seconded. I regret how often this comes up as a topic around tournament time. It's generally John Lloyd pushing it. The identity of the Davis Cup is great as it is. Where else do we get to witness, celebrate and cheer for the players who aren't a part of the small elite, that we already see and hear about again and again. The more stories that are written by the performances of these non elite players, the more exposure and celebration they earn and receive, the richer the tennis tapestry is. Stories and heroes are made in Davis Cup. And that's the unique magic it brings to the world of pro tennis.

Leaving aside the court Kyle's form isn't that great at the moment anyway. While he has won 3 matches so far this year they have been against Escobedo (two tie breaks against a player ranked about 140), Pouille (who was injured) and Giraldo (a player in truly abysmal form). Then you have his 4 defeats with 3 of them all being very poor performances. All in all you have to assume that he isn't feeling great about his game right now. For Shapovalov it is quite the reverse. He will likely be feeling pretty good with how he played today and while there is no way of knowing how a 17 year old will respond to a deciding Davis Cup rubber I get the feeling that he will handle the occasion pretty well.

Very fair points re Kyle's form this year. I wasn't really thinking it through and partly being taken in by some of our national broadcaster's comments. Though Pospisil's form does indeed appear to have been very poor.
