What are the actual rules on that? I have seen dsq for hitting ball kids, linesman and umpire, but what if it hit someone in crowd? It would be so easy to miss hit a ball, and it hit someone, so seems stupid to do. I would always opt for smashing racket like safin, as that way no chance of hitting someone.
Great to get the win and even more so that all the players contributed a point. Kyle was clearly on top and looked likely to win anyway so congratulations to him.
But I can't help feeling a good deal of sympathy for Shapovalov. I haven't seen the incident but I am sure he will be distraught. It would have been bad enough for Tim Henman at Wimbledon all those years ago when he was representing himself, but to do this when representing your country in the deciding rubber of a DC match in front of all those passionate supporters, will hurt all the more.
Head up Mr Shapovalov. We all made mistakes in our younger days. Hope you bounce back stronger.
Denis the Menace's tennis is certainly impressive but for now his main claim to fame will be having something in common with Tim Henman and David Nalbandian. Sad end, but hopefully he'll get over it. It'll certainly be a test of character for him.

I loved the Nalbanian incident soo much, some old toff linesman from the home counties that represents all that is wrong about elitist british tennis, got kicked. Was great. Nalbanian should have got OBE for that.
Shame it ended the way it did, Denis will undoubtedly be a top player in the future, obviously unintentionally but not a fan of petulant ball smashing or smashing up your kit in anyway, the player comes across as a spoilt brat generally on the cusp of defeat.

That still doesn't justify your describing the incident as "hilarious". The man could have lost the sight in one eye, for God's sake! You really need to brush up on your English vocabulary!
So glad, if it had to happen, that it was seen by a huge crowd and will be shown countless times on TV.
I have no problem at all with racket smashing (it's your own racket, do what you want to it). And am perfectly happy with bad language (in the case of most, who are berating themselves, not insulting someone else).
But that incident was really shocking and shows exactly why anything dangerous to others certainly should be a DQ offence.
Hats off to Pospisil for all his efforts in the tie, coming in with such little form and with his early injury scare. It was a court that did suit him, but still very well done.
And kudos to Kyle for coming out and efficiently getting things done up to the premature end. There were clearly some who were far from convinced that Kyle would win there, myself included, so well done lad.
Andrew McDougall. From that well known Home Counties town of, erm, Rotherham. Worked in local tennis for decades. (See Telegraph report of the match)
Of course, he faked all that blood pouring down his shin, too.
Terrible chap, obviously. The worst.
Don't stop feeling pleased with yourself though, Vandenburg, it is, after all, by far your strongest suit.
Best Wishes
