TENNAGE tennis star Andy Murray is showing off a different range of ball skills in the California sun.

The new British No1 had some fun on the football pitch with his fellow tennis players after he was knocked out of the Pacific Life Open in Indian Wells.

But Murray, 18, from Dunblane, a keen football fan who once had trials for Rangers, might have been left thinking he made the right choice of sport when he opted for tennis.

Despite giving the game his all, the teenager, who stunned top seed Andy Roddick to take his first ATP tour title in San Jose last month, managed to miss a sitter, to the dismay of his teammates.

He was playing for a team of European tennis stars against the South Americans on the ATP tour.

And Cypriot Marcos Baghadatis - who was losing finalist in the Australian Open - unleashed a volley of abuse when he made his blunder.

However, Baghadatis scored twice himself to secure the win - and a series victory - for the Europeans, who play regular matches against their South American rivals.

Murray has previously revealed he's a huge Hibernian fan and also has a soft spot for Barcelona.

He claimed: "In football, I played up front and I was a bit of a goal poacher."

Murray's next action on the tennis court is at the Masters at Key Biscayne, Florida, next week.

And he'll be hoping to improve on his run of luck in both his favourite sporting arenas.
