Amazing set of results here - a couple of rankings upsets I was expecting, more that I wasn't expecting at all.
Sam Barker (@sam25barker) tweeted me to say that "BP down in the decider, Gemma asked to replay a point after an incorrect line call went in her favour" - so it seems she's very sporting as well as being good enough to take out the 2nd seed, what a great combination

Olivia Nicholls is certainly interesting. Even in doubles, where she has had some real successes with Beth they have come in very few ITF events. Must have settled on her priorities for now ( or have their been injury issues ? ) but be interesting to see how she would do playing more regularly.
Very good to see Eden get that win and do hope that it is much more about Eden finding some significantly improved form again more than a bad day from Emily.
As for the various youngsters, of whom I know little, great stuff and I hope to be hearing plenty more.
So of the 5 players that came into the event without a ranking point and earned 1 yesterday, 4 have gone on today to earn a 2nd and Hannah was so close. And 3 of the 4 ( Olivia, Victoria and Gemma ) are in one half ( along with Eden ). Alicia is the 4th player who here has gone from 0 to 2 points ( so far ) although she has scored and been ranked in the past.

Lauryn is a break up in the second. If she could manage to hold on and take this into a third, you've got to wonder what the German has got left in the tank after yesterday....
Some great performances. Very good to hear about the asking to replay a point. Acts of good sportsmanship do nothing but good for the reputation of the individual and the sport. What is really positive is that in what must be one of the biggest games of her career so far she had the presence of mind to see the bigger picture, stay calm and fight back from a set down to win.
From a power, maturity of game perspective this was obviously a good choice of tournament in which to play. The capacity to play with power and yet have good mobility is a very strong base from which to develop.
Very exciting to see a crop of youngsters doing so well with another cohort of 13/14 year olds close behind.
Gemma should beat Victoria on paper. Similar age, Gemma has a much higher junior ranking and is higher on the pecking order for GB selection
I agree that you'd hope that the LTA knew what they were doing and the pecking order is a good reflection (not 100% convinced but it seems a reasonable assumption).
However, I don't think the junior ranking is that much use (apart from maybe as a sign of experience) as Allen has only just started playing the events and so her ranking is not a true one. And Gemma has played a whole heap.
(Add: which is nothing at all against Gemma, of whom I'm a big fan, as per previous posts and threads)
