Week 38 - Israel F13 ($10,000) - Kiriyat Gat (hard)

Scott took an early lead, had points for a double break, got pegged back as he got broken back. But has just now broken the 16 year-old American boy's serve to lead *5-3 and be serving for the match.

But the youngster breaks back.

Scott leads 5-4*

Time for another break, methinks....

That's a rather enterprising sixteen year old (just checked: he's a 1999, 17 in November. But still)

Well done, Josh. Good, clean win.

He had a good run in Belarus. Would be nice to see him consolidating that and building on it.

Round-up (with updated rankings):

L32:  (4) Neil Pauffley WR 600 defeated Evan Song (USA) WR 903 by 0 & 3

Should've been 0 & 2, but Neil was broken while serving for the match in the seventh game!

L32:  (6) Scott Clayton WR 726 defeated (Q) Danny Thomas (USA) UNR by 6-1 3-6 6-4

L32:  Josh Paris WR 1217 defeated (WC) Daniel Dudockin (ISR) WR 1617 by 2 & 1

*****

L16:  (4) Neil Pauffley WR 600 vs Daniel Cukierman (ISR) WR 818 (= CH)

L16:  Josh Paris WR 1217 vs (Q) Austin Smith (USA) UNR (CH = 1154 in March 2012)

Josh should by rights have been facing the Israeli third seed, Bar Tzuf Botzer, but the Yank qualifier took care of him by 2 & 1!

L16:  (6) Scott Clayton WR 726 vs Yasha Zemel (ISR) WR 1102 (CH = 1044 in April) or (more likely) Dekel Bar (ISR) WR 787 (CH = 700 in  May last year)

Three out of three. No complaints there then.

Is Austin Smith a college graduate by any chance?

Answering my own question - yes, he was at Georgia and did quite well

 Always the best way

I know he played a lot of Challengers this summer - not huge success in terms of wins but some good tight matches (I know I saw a bit of one on livestream but I can't remember which one)

Neil was twice a break up in the second set, and twice got broken back straight away. Not helped by 9 double faults in the second set alone.... (12 in total)

Josh is finding life hard against the well under-ranked college kid, losing 1-5

Scott on serve *2-3

That's a bizarre result - last week, Cukierman lost in the QFs to the player Neil thrashed 0 & 3 yesterday. Who knows what injury niggles, illness, off-court problems, etc, might have fed into either of those results though.
