Week 37 - ITF ($25K) - Lubbock, TX, USA - Hard

Excellent win. Laura Robson lookalike and US junior finalist awaits.

I think that will mean Freya will not be able to play qualifying next week.

Ashley looked a solid all round player, on the bubble between going pro and going to college, after this week she will have her pick. If Texas Tech recruit her it will have been an excellent piece of work this week. Freya's weight of shot is in a different league. Great to see her come through although not at all surprised and wish her well for tomorrow.

Shame I didn't get to see Kuzmova play but from the head to head it looks like Texas Tech will host a storming final between a couple of potential futures stars.

Freya had a SP at 5-4* 40-30* but lost the next 3 points.

0-6 *5-5, one break each in the second set.

Pity. From having come back from that first set bagel to have a SP in the second set, she then lost 11 of the last 12 points.

F: (5) Freya Christie WR 333 lost to (2) Viktoria Kuzmova WR 303 (CH 290 last month) 6-0 7-5

Still, clearly all in all, a very good week for Freya. And overall we had a finalist and had 4 in the QFs.

Welcome to the top 300 Freya. Let's do it in real style.

I thought she was certain to be top 300 when the Lubbock points went on too (it would put her close to 290 on last Monday's list) but she's actually ended up missing out by 1 place / 1 point, up 34 at 301 today

I haven't looked into exactly how it happened but 8-10 more players must have moved into the top 300 than left - not unheard of, but very unusual for the split to be that extreme unless there happen to be a lot more 50Ks and above on the previous week and/or 25Ks and below the week before that.
