Certainly heading rapidly in the direction of the top 200 and not a point to defend before next March.
I agree overall recently been playing a fair bit above that 200 level and hopefully that should steadily ( or spectacularly if she wants ) be reflected in her rankings movements.

Impressive win for Laura against a tough opponent at this level.
I like her response to losing the first set, which seemed to be 'OK so you have won a set against me, now let's see what you've really got'.
Maybe a bit of a wobble at the end but Gonzales has a very good 3 set record so Laura did well to win from behind today. Back to back Aces to win it too!

I think at the very least Laura is playing top 150 tennis, so should have the edge over Ms Oudin, who of course is also on the comeback trail, as Tony says the record is a good one, but it's been 3 years since they've met.
The match is a tournament organiser's dream if nothing else - hard to get a better match to promote ticket sales at $50k level than Robson v Oudin. Laura definitely starts as favourite but not overwhelmingly so.
Bizarre stat from today: Laura served 10 double faults in the match, and 5 of those were in the set she won 6-0. Meaningless stat: Laura's 5 service games in the deciding set totaled 22 points (3 holds to love, a break to love and a hold to 30).

Agreed. One rather has to be happy for both of them that they're in it, as both have had very difficult times in the past few years.
It's also a tournament director's dream for a reason I just checked, seeming to have recalled it at the back of my mind ... Melanie Oudin is from Georgia. That may or may not be ideal from Ms Robson's point of view. I'm never sure whether the 'home' advantage is a real one or not.
Edit: Thanks to Julia Carrot for posting the Twitter feed, it turns out they have an interview with Ms Oudin ... and it turns out this is quite literally her home court, the club at which she grew up playing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uy7XyGKG2Xo.

I think a lot of credit should go out to Colin Beecher and Lucy Ahl. Laura's results have improved significantly since they got involved in coaching Laura.

Yes. Absolutely. Well said.
Are they both out there with her, do you know?
Who did she have primarily before ?
NB When the JTC tweeted 'new term, new faces' on Sept. 5th, they put up a picture - is this Freya? Is she there now? Am I losing my marbles (coz it seems very unlikely but....)?
There is a picture of Mark Taylor and Freya in one of the shots. I'm sure they are still based at Nottingham, but probably used JTC for the day before flying out to the States.
I've no idea who is out there with Laura - I suspect it would be Lucy as Beechy would be called back to work with the DC team
Thanks.
Glad that I don't need (stronger!) glasses and it is indeed Freya.
Yes, it seemed extremely unlikely that they'd moved but the 'new term, new faces' made me wonder...
Good luck to Laura and whoever is with her !
Freya's on their list of current players. www.juniortenniscoaching.com

Brain of Britain !
Well done, hadn't though of that....... (duh)
Next question - Mark Taylor hasn't gone with her, has he? Surely not.
Or maybe she's going to be based half in London and half in Notts? The way some of our players are listing as being at Soto but only go there for certain training blocks...
