Three hour long and counting almighty thunderstorm here, and hour long delay in Tokyo; result, awake to follow an excellent first set from Jossanna! 6-1 cheer.gif

Funny you should write that. Was just thinking that benefit of thunder was that one could get a quick check on time zones that aren't normally in the running ....

They're keeping up their record of a WTA final each year (from 2014) - they lost the first one in straight sets, lost the second in a match tie-break, so let's hope they can keep up their record of improving by a set each year!

Super win. Hozumi/Kato are exactly the sort of pair our girls should be looking at for inspiration of getting that ranking right up. To take them out so convincingly is fabulous.

What a tournament for them, possibly the break they've had has allowed the injury niggles to settle and freshen up mentally, because arguably this is some of the best tennis they've ever played.

These points will also get them both back into the top 100

Joss & Anna, very smart in their new team sponsor kit, are on court for their final, live stream available.
Hopefully, a first title here can bring a little cheer to Brit Tennis fans after yesterday

Let's go Jossanna cheer.gif

Joss & Anna trying to get to net on every point. They're often being allowed that position, with the Japanese hitting effectively down the middle round the sides or over the top, for winners, or un-returnables on multiple occasions.
Joss & Anna have Libby Fletcher travelling with them as coach, who came down for a consult.
Japanese pair very high energy, fuelled by a large and very supportive home crowd.
Ninomiya especially has been very good, creative, varied and effective shot making, and blinding on cut offs. But both Brits also having trouble rallying to Aoyama, especially her forehand.

Jossanna not playing terribly, but the Japanese pair are dominating, and, playing very well, have answers to everything.
Another coaching consult, and the tactic now is basically drill the ball right at them. 3-6 1-4*

Joss was the weak link today, but all credit to the Japanese pair, whom were very good.

Lacked a bit of variety. As Libby said, never went down the line.
