Zekic took out the top seed Zeballos in 3 sets. Aljaz ought to be the fresher of the two though, he took just 59 minutes to win his QF whereas Zekic was on court for 3 hours and also played a tough 3 setter the day before.
While a SF here isn't exactly a bad result it only results in a net gain of 15 points. Could really do with a very good result in Rome (week after next).
I had hoped Aljaz could make the final at least here but looking at the statistics his serve let him down mostly today. He ended with 51% first serves in and for most of the match was below 50% and that really made a difference as he was winning over 80% of service points when his first serve landed in. He had break points at 5-5 in the first set and again at 3-2 up in the second and if he could have taken those it could have been so different but still it's been a better week than any he has had since Roland Garros and as RJA says he can hopefully go all the way in Rome.
