The main draw is out and:

(a) none of the girls has drawn a seed - tick
(b) none of the girls has drawn another British player - tick

That said, Eleanor has drawn the girl she lost to last week and Jazzamay has a player who was WR 224 back in 2009 but you can't have everything.....

It's about the worst possible news, as so soon into her return, Eleanor retires, 3-6 0-2

There has to be an underlying injury problem - that serve is still not working.

Good comeback from Alicia from 0-5 to 4-5, but lost the first set 6-4

That win takes Emma a point clear of Laura Deigman, who is not in action this week. So clear a space in the top 25 table, or at least in a couple of weeks time.

Re Eleanor it's difficult to know what to say, especially knowing nothing about this retiral. But in general just so sad and frustrating for her

Momentum still with Alicia, as she takes the second set 6-1, and will serve first in the decider

Oh Alicia, from 5-2* up in the decider, she loses 6-4 1-6 7-5 (no match points, but lost 8 points in a row from *5-3)

Not a great result....

Bit worse than that PaulM. From 5-2 deuce lost 10 points in a row, and another run of 7 in a row - only 5 points in the last 5 games. Must be some kind of injury, as she couldn't have run out of gas after just a couple of hours. Such a pity, was looking good for the win and a ranking point.

I doubt it was an injury if she then went and played the doubles pretty soon afterwards. Or that she ran out of gas. More like just match play got to her.

As you say, a real shame it got away from her. Maybe that article about finding the nasty side was quite apt.......work in progress....
