Week 36 - ITF ($10K) - Ponta Delgada, Azores, Portugal Hard

Late in the day, but thanks to Optimist for posting the article about Alicia Barnett. Sounds like a thoroughly lovely and strong person - hope she does well.

It certainly looks as though she needs to work on her second serve - just 16 out of 32 went in.
Still, she has gained her first point back on the road to a ranking

Little disappointing that they both lost.

Although I thought it was a rather over optimistic of those talking about Eleanor actually winning this tournament - it's her first ITF for over 2 years - a very lengthy lay-off, which followed a previous lengthy lay-off, of another approx. 2 years.

NB Does anyone know precisely what Ellie's injury was ? I note the -14 net DFs (16 DFs minus her 2 aces) that the addcits highlights, which is hardly ideal. But her opponent was -12 so it wasn't much different. I remember something about a shoulder/arm thing but might be getting her confused with someone else.

Anyway, we're left with 'Allez, Jazzamay!'

Ines MURTA /Ioana Loredana ROSCA [1] def Lisa PHILLIPS /Elina VIKHRYANOVA 7-5 6-2
Good start from Lisa+, led 4-1 and 5-2 in the first set, but the top seeds got going from then on.

All in all, not the best week really in the Azores, as Jazzamay has to retire...
