Melzer was #6 a few years ago when he played with Petzschner. And Matkowski (formerly partner of Fyrstenberg) was playing in the ATP finals around the same time.
Had Colin and Mariusz lost in straight sets they would have rightly felt robbed as the break that nearly cost them the second set was the result of a very bad line call. Fortunately they fought back to take that set but were then totally outplayed in the final set.
It is always a bit of a lottery when you come up against someone like Thiem playing doubles. He makes a number of howlers but he also produces winners that most doubles players wouldn't dream of going for. Weissborn playing in only his first slam, and having only played one tournament on the ATP main tour, was also annoyingly good as the match wore on.
It's Friday night on the 1st week of a Grand Slam (which Slam is actually irrelevant). One of our players is playing singles; one has just won a doubles match; one has already won a singles match; and one is winning a doubles match. And none of them is Andy Murray. And there are two others still in contention. These are heady days indeed.

Indeed
Dan and Nick into the last 16 with (12) Kubot & Peya, their possible next opponents, being the only remaining seeds in the bottom quarter.
Dan and Nick had an absolute ball together. They both have tons of flair and were pulling off some amazing shots. Felt a bit sorry for the Americans at times, as they were taking it really seriously and Nick and Dan were just completely controlling things. They tried playing all the volleys to Dan at the net, which was admittedly a good strategy, as Nick was doing some fantastic volleying. But Dan's net game held up. At one point, I think it was Tommy Paul, was trying to trade volleys with both guys tight in at the net, and Krygios was just standing there, not even moving for the volleys but still playing fantastic shots supported by Dan. Needless to say they won the point.
Two funny things were, firstly, seeing Dan, our own slightly bad boy of tennis, calming Kyrgios down. There were a couple of seemingly poor line calls (we were out on court six so no hawkeye). Kyrgios looked like he was going to completely lose it, but Dan stepped in and totally calmed him down both times by making him laugh, and the tension went. I wonder if it will help Dan in calming himself down. The other one was all four players coming out in identical flourescent yellow/green outfits. They all looked ridiculous and Dan and Nick were having a laugh about it with members of the crowd about it.
It was such an enjoyable match, more like seniors doubles in spirit, but with the pace and energy of current players. Hopefully the enjoyment will give him confidence to feed into his singles match today.
The partizan crowd came across on the radio for sure but Kyle kept on silencing them by showing great resilience when their tails were up.
Good to know that GB#3 can best US#1....

Thanks for that, Nix. Good to have a "roving reporter's"' eye view of the proceedings.
