Murray and Soares have as kind a draw as one could hope for to get to the quarters. All the US doubles wildcards seem to be sacrificial lambs (others facing Kubot/Peya, Nestor/Pospisil, Lopez/Lopez, Herbert/Mahut, Guccione/Sa ... with one lot getting Haase/Sitak in the 1st round, but then Herbert/Mahut if they get through that). The Inglot/Draganja draw is interesting. Not bad for drawing a seed, and then a reasonable match if they get through that ... but then Dodig/Melo projected in the 3rd round. Given that Dom Inglot is defending SF points, it could have been better.
Interesting that Dan is playing doubles. I wonder if a decent doubles showing could help give him the edge for Davis Cup selection as it is no doubt coming downtown a straight choice between him and Kyle.
As an aside, noticed Baghdatis and Muller play Brown and Paired in doubles first round. Entertainment likely!
Pity to see just two of our six top 80 ranked players in the draw. I believe Colin Fleming at least is a high alternate.
The singles ranking allowance thing of course doesn't help them, but for good or bad it exists and is used and is arguably just more unfortunate than anything that we have players on the cusp. I think that it's actually been more noticeable in some of the masters events when quite a few singles players 'invade' fields of only 24 pairs and some fairly masterful doubles specialists don't get in. There I think they should have minimum fields of 32.

Colin Fleming is 1st alternate and is on site ... so if anyone were to retire, presumably he and his partner would be there to fill the gap.
Colin was commentating on Kyle's match and perked up when the news came through of Vesely's withdrawal in singles. If he withdraws in doubles as well there will be a vacancy for alternates against Thiem/Weissborn
