Weeks 35 & 36 - US Open Doubles - New York, USA - Hard

Looked like a repeat of the second set, Nao sparking to life at the end, set up 3 BP against Hev & Michaella on the Dutch serve, *0-40, but they dug in for some last gasp defence and ran off five pretty incredible points in a row to hold!
6-2 3-6 5-4*

Need another great escape, *15-40 on Heather's serve... but not this time.
They'll need to break to stay alive. Hibino has been taught well by EWS, and looks the deciding factor.
6-2 3-6 5-6*

R2:  Nicole Gibbs & Nao Hibino (USA/JPN) CR 241 (126+115) defeated Heather Watson & Michaëlla Krajicek (NED) CR 205 (86+119) by 2-6 6-3 7-5

Bugger! cry

They started well, and tailed off pretty much after the first set ended, never to recover.
Naomi#s #1 GB ranking is secure.

Bah

Speaking of Nao ( and in passing Emily ), I know Nao ended up playing Wimbledon with Alicja Rosolska, but did anyone ever find out if Nao and Emily sounded out getting a Wimbledon WC entry ?

Ach frustrating one. Thought they would win that one

In some ways, thankfully, because Brits are already spoiled for choice as to which of the main show courts to watch, Naomi's doubles has started without any stream.
Still, a bit strange as they are playing the #1 seeds, but there you go.
Had 2 early BP, but couldn't close, *0-1

Well, they got on the scoreboard ... 5-1 in the first set with their opponents to serve for it.

From 0-5 to 3-6.
Can they continue the improvement, and hit the ground running better in set 2?

About the expected scoreline, though it may have been closer than that suggests. They actually created more BP than the top seeds, just took almost none; 1/10 as opposed to 5/9.
R2: Naomi BROADY/Shelby ROGERS (GBR/USA) 229 lost to Kristina MLADENOVIC/Caroline GARCIA (FRA) [1] 7 3-6 1-6

Naomi can get some good rest and training in before defending her Quebec City points.

Jo and the boys left - still plenty to be getting on with

Interesting final.

#1 seeds and French Open champions, the naughty girls, Garcia & Mladenovic vs #12 seeds and two times 2015 Slam champions Mattek-Sands & Safarova.

Best possible response to the FFT. Two fine teams and seem to be quite decent sorts on both sides, too. The fans can't really lose.

Incidentally, I'd not thought of it until now, but Andy Murray's prediction re: Caroline Garcia has come true, though not in singles.
