Pretty brutal.
3 hours 51 minutes! Mandy was 0-4 down in the decider, rallied, but to no avail.
R1: Amanda CARRERAS (GBR) [6] 280 lost to (Q) Melanie STOKKE (NOR) 419 7-6(10) 5-7 4-6
I followed the start of the match when Mandy was 4-1 up - did not see this epic tussle coming! Gutting for Mandy to come out on the losing side, but hopefully she recovers and bounces back in her next tournament.
Alice has the real need as she has slipped right down the rankings. A year ago there was only about 100 between them, now it's a lot more. Also, Mandy could have used a few points here to take out one of her low counters - and I think she's still got a 12 pointer to come off.
Ah yes I recall ( and just looked again ) that Savoretti had really fallen down the singles rankings. Clearly rather better for them as an ongoing doubles pair if they are at a fairly similar singles level, which they're not really now. And the higher the better.
I have the impression that, since her purple patch in early summer, Amanda may have been nursing an injury? She has made several late withdrawals from tournaments, and her form when she has played has dropped off a bit.
Hopefully, if she played a long singles match here, and carries on in doubles, that's a sign that she's returning to full fitness, and ready to start moving on up again.
