It's the women's doubles final, with Caro Garcia and Kiki Mlad. against Safarova and Mattek-Sands.
Hardly anybody there.
And more to the point, the French federation are 'boycotting' the event..... :(
There was hardly anyone watching Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares win the men's doubles either. Scheduling the doubles finals four hours before the singles finals ensures it finishes in good time, but obviously most of the ticket holders aren't going to get there that early and watch. Makes a lot more sense to have the doubles after the singles.
Sense doesn't apply to Sunday schedules in September in America. It's the first Sunday of the new NFL season. You're just not going to get the crowds in. Having it before clashes with the East Coast fixtures, having it after clashes with the West Coast fixtures. Also the networks won't carry it in that slot even if it there wasn't NFL - at best it would be tape delayed like their truly awful Olympics coverage - and they demand it's shown before the singles.
Naomi's loss in New Haven Qualies looks less and less terrible.
As well as defeating WR48 in MD R1, Kayla Day also just won the USO Junior title for the loss of just one set in her six matches. She only lost five or more games in a set twice during her entire run.
