Now we have the complete draw you have to say it's a very good one - no Brit plays an opponent in the top 80 (balancing out the rough Wimbledon draw).
I imagine it's a while since we had two British women against each other in an overseas Grand Slam match, but given that both Naomi and Laura are currently in a position where a R2 finish here would be a very good result, it's nice that one of them is guaranteed to achieve that.
As long as Hogenkamp doesn't go into Fed Cup mode, then Heather won't get a better chance to finally get that US Open win.
Sloane has withdrawn, which means Monica Puig now moves up to Seed #32, and is juggled in to Jo's section as a possible R16 opponent; also, Kucova the Q in her section. Stiffens up that section.
I don't have a problem with Brit on Brit battles in slams, the top 25 table and rankings are what they are but we follow the players so closely that we have pretty good insight into their relative strengths and weaknesses it is great to see them pitch up against each other. The outcome also puts the tables in perspective. For example, the world number 67 on the men's side I think would get beaten on all surfaces 75-80% of the time by the world number 85.
Very interesting article, bears out some of the points made in this forum about Laura's state of mind. Hopefully that is all in the past, and now her confidence has returned and the results will follow.
Eurosport is showing day 1 of the US Open from 15.30 today. Earlier in the day they are showing replays of last year's matches involving Jo Konta and Andy Murray.
Well, with a long match between Taylor Townsend and Caroline Wozniacki, followed by a still-in-the-fifth-set match between John Isner and Frances Tiafoe, and the Tsonga/Andreozzi match yet to come, it looks as if Ms Konta won't get on until past midnight here.
