Boys: Int. de Clermont-Ferrand, France - clay - Grade 4 (Week 34)

Well done !

The clutch of French boys he beat included 3 born in 2000 and 2 born in 2001

The finalist, Antoine Cornut Chauvinc, has just played at the Nationals ('proper' nationals, where all the best play) and made the semis in the 15/16 yrs, before losing to the eventual winner (Jaimee Floyd Angel, all 6 foot 8 of him......). The other finalist was Gaston who was the top seed here but got beaten by a Spanish lad in the quarters.
Joffre, Anton's first-round opponent, made the L16 at the nationals, as did Anselmo (Anton's opponent in the semis). Of his other two opponents, Voisin made the L32 in the Nats and Epee got knocked out in R1.

Great minds. I was curious to see what level the French players Anton Matusevich had conquered were, so looked a few up (unlike you, CD, who don't need to look them up!) Was well impressed that there was basically the better part of their top 15/16s in this field and Anton Matusevich won. Well done to him!

Oh, Spectator, I had to look them up too, believe me ! (of the five, there were three I'd never heard of - the nationals are a 64-strong draw (near enough), for each age category, so it's a LOT of names....)

By the way, if anyone wants to see the French Nationals for any reason, they can be found on this page:

www.ci.applipub-fft.fr/cipublic/index.do

It covers all the National Championships that take place over summer: all the juniors, the veterans and also the 'série'/division championships (i.e. open to any age but based on your FFT ranking) - 4ieme serie is about LTA 10.2 to 8.1, 3ieme serie is about 7.2 to 4.1 and 2ieme serie is about 3.2 to 1.2

NB You can't enter direct into the National Championships, no matter what your ranking or position. You must come through the departmental championships, and then the regional championships first. Only the winner of each region gets an automatic place - the other places are given out (in advance) to regions with a higher number of players/higher number of highly-ranked players for that particular category. But you still have to earn the place - i.e. it'll go to the runner-up, or they'll be a play-off for third from the two semi-finalists.
