Yes, but these guys have very high standards (otherwise they wouldn't be where they are). That's where I'm coming from really. And a thrashing is a thrashing whoever it's coming from.
Yes. But Kyle got pretty beaten up at Wimbledon - the score maybe wasn't quite as brutal but it wasn't far off - and the guy he was playing was MILES below Novak.
And that didn't discourage him. Quite the reverse, one could say.
Players are pretty good at dealing with losing, I've found - it's all around them.
Dan Evans is going to have far more problems getting over his loss, than Kyle, in my view - that one's going to stay with Evo for a long time....
I hope the LTA (or whoever) make Evo speak to a sports psychologist about the loss. This feels like a big moment in his career - I hope he can take the positives forward.

Why is that the LTA's responsibility? Surely Mr. Evans can afford his own shrink nowadays.

I've just read Kyle's presser (I'd read Dan's earlier) and it seems that that is the case. Kyle is being positive and Dan talking about the smash to the middle of the court that lost it for him.
Of course, these were their opinions straight after the match, so who knows what they are thinking now. I hope Dan's already in Marbella though, doing whatever he needs to to to recover.

Didn't say they were responsible. But if they're still funding him, then they should be encouraging it. Along with everyone else.
I suspect Dan will be OK. He is just much more liable to put it all out there in a press conference. But he will move on.
Speaking generally I think there's at least as much reason to be concerned re a quieter, less 'in your face' person that says all the 'right' things. In this case I think Kyle too will move on and indeed I think it an easier one to get over. I still don't really 'get' the concerns re him. Though fair enough observe reactions and be prepared to help both if seemingly necessary.

I still think that the best remedy for Dan is to wrap himself up in the DC family and focus on that. The spirit within the team will lift him better than any psychiatrist.
Interesting article in the Daily Mail with comments from Djokovic on Kyle's potential, Kyle commenting on the areas he needs to improve and a well earned mention for the coaches, Ryan Jones and Mark Hilton. It also talks about the new performance director.
I thought that Mr Evans' press conference was mature and sensible - as I think RJA said earlier. Straightforward, clear, certainly not 'happy to have been there' - which actually felt as if it said more about his understanding of his potential than a more upbeat press conference would have.
I agree, I enjoyed Dans press conference. He has merely set himself tough targets and was immensely frustrated to get so close to hitting one. Much better than just turning up to watch when drawn against a grand slam winner.
I agree with last few posters. Dan should get over it quickly. Yes he came close, yes he made errors (so does everyone in every match) the double fault at 5-4 in tb and the smash, BUT his post match analysis was mature enough, as was his desire to get into NYC and get smashed the same evening.
I expect this game to give him the hunger to get back there not to put him off trying. I think he had a desire not to be a gallant loser, and was gutted that he'd become that, but whilst it's never a smooth path in Tennis (or with Dan) I think he'll be fine.
Andy far too good for Dimitrov, who struggled to hold throughout the match. Only late in the contest did Dimitrov edge above 50% won behind his first serve. Andy's serve still looks vulnerable, low 1st serve percentage and 5 dfs, otherwise played well while I was watching.
