Although a lot of this is down to intrinsic qualities within Kyle, particularly his pragmatism, commitment and work ethic, a big hand to Ryan Jones as Kyle has had a stonking 6 months and to be fare although Kyle has worked his way through a few coaches a big hand should go to some of the guys (LTA coaches) who have supported and mentored him through futures and challengers, Beechy, Hilts even Greg? and BiS (Perhaps that is too much to bare for some, although he was also involved in junior Davis cup Greg not Bob (who runs the fan club and fledging break away Kyle Edmund massage board)

I too am particularly pleased for Ryan.  He did a terrific job with young Mr Coric bringing him from skinny, playing-not-to-lose teenager to a real force in the men's game only seemingly to be dumped as his pupil hit the magic top 100.  I imagine Beechy is still somewhat involved, if only on the periphery.  Coric was based at JTC and Beechy is a coach there (as is Alan Jones, Ryan's father).

Dan is a break up and just had 40-15* to go two breaks up but lost the next four points when I started following live score so I've just left him to it.

*3-2

Code for anyone unwise enough to try to read my point by point:

E = Daniel Evans. Z= Alexander Zverev f= forehand, b = backhand, v = volley, unret = an unreturned serve, agg = an aggressive shot that forces an error, ue = unforced error, df = double fault, dtl = down the line,

Dan saved 2 bps, one of which was a poor ue from Z, the first was a decent first serve unreturned. Nice lob to finish the game 5-3*

Easy hold for Z *5-4

Dan serving for set: 1st dumps poor initial forehand into net 0-15. Big 2nd serve unret 15-15. 2nd Z f ue net 30-15. 1st z b ue long 40-15. 1st E f dtl ue net 40-30. 1st unret (w-30) 6-4

--

Start of 2nd set Z careless play with a df and a poor f gift Evans a bp but Dan nets an aggressive forehand down the line after a rally. *0-1

Dan down 0-30 missed those two points, recovers to 30-30 with a Z ue and a deep f from Dan, then 2 bad errors, one f, one b, cost Dan the break 0-2*

Z saves bp with a big 1st serve *0-3

I'm off to make some tea.
