Week 34 - ATP 250 - Winston-Salem Open, Winston-Salem, NC (hard)

Apologies for anyone who saw the homophobic auto correct of Gasquet's name in last post before I corrected it.

Meanwhile some lovely Tennis sees Dan hold for 3-3

Not sure whether Dan could have him (or could have had him) here or Gasquet is just doing enough when it matters, but there's been some lovely tennis from both, along with quite a bit of the opposite.

I can't guess what the autocorrect might have been (though I haven't given any thought to it!)

Dan breaks in game 9 and then holds to love to take the second set 6-4.

He really has played a fantastic match so far. Hopefully he can maintain it in the third set.

Well I was tempted to screenshot it and sell it to the press wink

I agree that he has played really well at times, but I didn't see that coming, thought Gasquet was going to edge the 2nd set too. 4-6 6-4

Ha. My internet went off at vital time so missed the break but glad it happened. Hope he can keep it going.

I was feeling uncharacteristically charitable on the basis that you and your colleagues are already experience traumatic times.

Oh Dan! Plays great tennis to get to 15-40 and then at 30-40 a superb return puts him in charge but overcooks the forehand winner long to let RG off the hook. Two points later its 3-2 on serve. A big chance.

And costly it proves, Dan never quite gets clear and finally succumbs to a break point to trail *4-2 :(

The overhead at 40-30 did him. Should have seen the game out there.

Dan saves a MP in a 25 odd shot rally and hold to make Gasquet serve out 5-3.

Not to be but a very good performance from Dan tonight. He once again showed that he belongs at this level and if he gets a decent draw there is no reason why he can't do some damage at the US Open.

So close. Dan plays brilliant point for 0-15 and then has chances to win next two points but a tentative backhand response to Gasquet netcord and then an overhit forehand cross give Gasquet 30-15 and 2 unanswered serves later the Frenchman is through, but having had a hell of a shock. He won't forget this workout, and think the WS crowd will have got a good deal more than they bargained for too.

Yes a case of what might have been but a hell of a good contest, proud of Dan for that.
