Week 34 - Belgium F10 ($10,000) - Huy (clay)

As Indi said on another thread, really hoping to see Billy Harris on the MD list. He hasn't withdrawn, so hopefully that is not just an administrative oversight on his part.

Mixed fortunes for the twins:

QR1:  Kurt Lecount UNR defeated Axel Bolis (BEL) UNR by 6-1 6-7(5) 6-2

Could've so easily been a bagel in the decider, but he was broken twice, though he also kept breaking the Belgian in return!

Quasi-Brit, Chris Anguelov, is also through his first round match (Chris is Bulgarian but has been in the UK for the last 6 years, or so, as a student at LSE for 3 years or so, I seem to remember). Young Irish 'star', 16 year-old Simon Carr, is also through his match, to the FQR

FQR:  (q4) Luke Oakley WR 1476 vs Soren Hess-Olesen (DEN) UNR (CH = 958 in June)

I think this might be a little premature.

From what I can see, Hess-Olesen won his first round match today but won't play his QR2 match until tomorrow. His QR2 match is against Falabella (ARG) and Luke will play the winner of that match.

NB Tom F gets a 38 year-old Frenchman as his QR2 opponent

You have a point.  No sure what I was thinking there.

Premature no longer.  Positively prescient, in fact! wink

Never heard of the Frenchman, but he'll be 30 in November!

Thanks for that - I knew his name was familiar from somewhere - but couldn't for the life of me remember from where... he also made a 10k final last July, so can't be too shabby a player....

Quennessen is at TC Rouen and won the money tournament at Le Harve in July, beating Nick Chappell (USA) WR 650 (approx) in the final, 6-1 6-4, and David Fleming (CHI) WR 1100 (approx) in the semi.

His age is nothing special (even the 38 year-old that Tom played in round one, which is pushing it a bit, is just about in the norm).

There are literally tons of French players in their late 20s or their 30s who play at about WR 1000 level, give or take. They have a day job (often teachers or civil servants so they have very 'flexible' schedules and spend half their days practicing), play domestic tennis very seriously (team, individual tournaments, championships) and occasionally make a foray into ITFs but it's not really what motivates them.
