Week 33 - ITF ($10K) - Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain Clay

Beating Al Nabhani on her favoured surface is pretty decent, even if she is a bit inconsistent.

Cannot be much longer before Emily goes to uni - got a feeling we will she a top player on tour when she finishes college.

If I remember correctly, she is going in September. Her form is getting better and better and I'm sure she'll go far. I was very impressed with her stamina and ball striking when I watched her at Felixstowe this year.

Brilliant job, Em. She's always been a fave....

And, yes, stamina is not a problem for Emily - she makes that Duracell bunny look positively lazy.

Not sure about her being a top player on tour when she finishes college, though.

After Stanford, she's going to have a lot of offers, and choices to make - I certainly hope she gives pro tennis a try. But she may well choose not to....

Add: currently into a pretty tight doubles match, Em+ having lost the first set in a tie-break.

Emily Arb and partner made it tight, but ended up losing their doubles, 8-10, in the MTB

After losing her serve in the first game, Emily then won the next 6 games in a row to claim the first set, 6-1

Consistently impressive

F: Emily ARBUTHNOTT (GBR) [5] 605 v. Andrea GAMIZ (VEN) [2] 403 (CH 245, Jun. 2015)
Gamiz has been trying her hand at $25K and above for the last ten months with virtually zero return at all; this is her first $10K in that time. She did make a WTA doubles final in Bogota in that time

Although in terms of net points, it's nothing yet because she has the runner-up place from last year at Chiswick to come off.

(Of our top 25 girls, nine of them (9!) are going to lose points this week from the lack of Chiswick this year....)

Ah yes, I forgot she beat Harriet and made the final. And yes, there were a lot of our girls at Chiswick last year - I saw several of them in the second round.

But still, she is very consistent

As CD says Emily has last year's runner up points from Chiswick to come off. Still over the coming two Mondays she is already guaranteed at least a little 2 point net points increase by a week Monday compared to now ( 2 from last week + 7 replacing these 7 last year )

ie up to 40 points, which should almost certainly be enough to take her into the top 600 for the first time.

Another good week from Emily, but no title today. I thought she might get a little closer than was in fact the case.

F: Emily ARBUTHNOTT (GBR) [5] 605 lost to Andrea GAMIZ (VEN) [2] 403 1-6 1-6
