Week 32 - ITF ($25K) - Landisville, USA Hard

I had forgotten how much the commentator liked to audibly count every one of An-Sophie Mestach's ball bounces before serves.

Emily, back out in the doubles, with Lykina, both looking for some consolation for their singles losses; starts well against Celik/Sramkova, *1-0

Won't be long before the other three are out on court, Tara against Melanie Oudin, and Laura/Freya in doubles. Both courts were streamed earlier

Yes, not before 10:30 and 10:15 repectively, just a few more minutes ;)

A bit surprised by the relative lack of strength in Emily's rallying groundstrokes these days...far weaker than I remember. A bit streaky too, but some nice unorthodox shotmaking too.

Yeah she's got very little off the ground these days, and just gets blown apart by anyone half decent from the back of the court. Volleys aren't sharp enough either for some of the approaches she tries.

Well outclassed today but at least she won a couple more matches.

Em and Ksenia salvage a bad day with a hard fought win over two decent singles players, 64 16 14-12.

Took their fourth match point (having served back to back doubles at *10-9)

Laura and Freya up an early break against qualifiers.

Oudin playing rather better today than in her doubles yesterday, up 2-1* on Tara.

Laura and Freya served for the set at 5-3 and 6-5, and were broken both times. 3 breaks each side in that set but only one DF each.

Tara also wins 6-1 in the second set - her match has only taken an hour for two sets which is pretty quick (at least in comparison to Laura's match which was over 3 hours).

Some real quality play from Tara to dominate the second set, 3-6 6-1
I think Naomi B's progress might have been very good for Tara, because she's travelled with her in the past, and knows she's capable of that level. She looks committed and focused these days since the grass, and hopefully can kick on in the same admirable way Naomi has.
