Singles and doubles it's now 24 games in a row won by Laura. She won the last 10 games of her doubles SF yesterday, 12 in the singles final, and now 2 here!
Laura and Freya win the first set, but the Belgians were definitely getting back into it at the end of the set. According to the commentary, Jo Konta is joining in some of the points too, so with 3 on 2 the Brits should win.
Agreed, the Belgians were coming back, but they are each top 100 doubles players, so you'd expect something.
A measure of how well the Brits have been doing that even the Belgian comeback only netted them a 3-6 set.
F: Laura ROBSON/Freya CHRISTIE (GBR) 663 d. Elise MERTENS/An Sophie MESTACH (BEL) [1] 161 6-3 6-4
Bopped two top 100 players with relative ease.
Laura - queen of Landisville - 's first ever professional doubles title!
Freya's sixth, and second at $25K, both this year.
Not a lot happening off clay ITF-wise for a few weeks, so hopefully Laura will pop back home and then come back to the US for the run of 50/75/25ks starting with Atlanta on the 12th September. That seems like a good next step.
